School Start Times for the 2011-2012 School Year

(Posted December 1, 2010)

As the District prepares for a reduction in state and federal funding, one cost reduction measure that will be implemented in 2011-2012 will be a change from a two-tier bus system to a three-tier bus system. This means each bus and driver will run three consecutive routes morning and afternoon rather than two. This will reduce the number of buses and drivers needed and, subsequently, reduce bus transportation costs by $350,000 to $400,000.

To accomplish this, District schools will be assigned to three different schedules. Following is the planned schedule:

Tier #1 - 7:20 AM to 2:20 PM

  • St. Charles HS
  • St. Charles West HS
  • Hardin MS
  • Lewis & Clark (Exact time schedule to be determined)
  • Success Campus (Exact time schedule to be determined)

Tier #2 - 8:05 AM to 3:05 PM

  • Jefferson Intermediate School
  • Coverdell Elementary
  • Null Elementary

Tier #3 - 8:50 AM to 3:50 PM

  • Lincoln Elementary
  • Blackhurst Elementary
  • Monroe Elementary
  • Harris Elementary

Because many families will need to prepare for this change, we felt it important to inform you well in advance. We understand this change may be inconvenient for some, but any steps taken to reduce District costs will come with a measure of inconvenience. It remains our goal to make necessary changes in ways that have the least direct impact on what happens inside the classroom.
